Regional Science and Tech week set Oct. 10 to 14

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- The province of Kalinga will host the 2017 Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) celebration themed “Science for the People 2017” from October 10 to 14. It is open to the public for free.

Department of Science and Technology-Cordillera (DOST-CAR) Regional Director Victor Mariano on Friday said this is part of the department’s effort to further the interest of residents from the provinces about the technical and financial assistance programs, and services intended for the Cordilleras.

“The regional science and technology week celebration is a great opportunity and a good a venue for both ends," Mariano said.

This is the first time the event will be held outside Baguio City and La Trinidad, Benguet but the organizers are still expecting to a big number of participants.

“We are very positive that we will still have big numbers or even more than the usual participants from Benguet province especially Baguio City and La Trinidad. All the activities during the celebration will be held in Tabuk City. But more than that, this will be a new environment for them where they can get to know more about the province and experience the hospitality of the Kalinga people,” Mariano said.

Activities during the four-day event include: Forum on 21st Century leadership for local chief executives and municipal science and technology coordinator; the annual summit of enterprising; small enterprises technology upgrade program; science and technology exhibit; interactive exhibits and techno bazaar; science and technology quiz; technology for and disaster summit.

 

 Meanwhile, the Regional Invention Contest and Exhibit (RICE) will be on November 6 and 7 in Baguio. (Dionisio B. Dennis Jr /PNA)
