COTABATO CITY -- Security has been beefed up here and in adjoining Tamontaka, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao, following Wednesday night’s twin explosionS that rocked two military checkpoints manning the entrance to this city.
Capt. John Arvin Encinas, Army’s 6th Infantry Division spokesman, said two vehicles, a pick up truck and a car, whizzed by the checkpoint of Task Force Kutawato and nearby detachment of the Army’s 39th Infantry Battalion at around 9:55 p.m. and successively hurled grenades at the two outposts.
No government troopers were hurt in the ensuing grenade explosions, Encinas said.
“The attackers zipped by the opposite direction going towards the direction of Datu Odin Sinsuat town from Cotabato City so they got away fast,” he said.
Only one passage, the Tamontaka Bridge, separates this city from Datu Odin Sinsuat town in the southern part.
Immediately after the attack, strict security check has been implemented on all vehicles entering and exiting the city.
Encinas said military and police probers have yet to identify the group behind the attack. (PNA)
