Warden ‘disguised as a woman’ recaptures Laguna jail escapee

CALAMBA CITY, Laguna -- A provincial jail warden revealed here on Friday that he was able to recapture the fifth of six Laguna prisoners who bolted the provincial jail October 29 last year when he disguised as a woman during a planned meet-up with the escaped inmate.

In an interview with PNA, Laguna Provincial Jail Warden Marino Garcia disclosed that he was able to acquire the cell phone number of Rio Amihan Mahilom, 30, a native of Kauswagan Norte, Catigbian, Bohol, one of the six escaped prisoners who went hiding after the jailbreak.

Garcia said that he introduced himself as lady named Maricel Gomez, 32, and married to an older man, to Mahilom when the disguising warden first texted him last Dec. 30, 2017.

After exchanging text messages via SMS (short messaging system) since then, the two agreed to a meet-up last Jan. 2, 2018 at Superlines Bus Terminal in this city’s Barangay Turbina.

It was then that the provincial jail warden handcuffed Mahilom, who was shocked to learn that his text buddy was not a real woman.

It can be recalled that Mahilom was the one who grabbed the M-16 Armalite rifle of a jail guard during the prison break from the Laguna provincial jail in Santa Cruz as seen from CCTV footages.

Mahilom was also seen holding the rifle few hours later as captured in CCTV footages while in Los Baños during the escape with two other prisoners.

The fugitive is facing charges of illegal possession of explosives, robbery, frustrated murder and grave threats.

The recapture of Mahilom and the four other escapees last year, leaves Rayman Raymundo (murder case) as fugitive from the six escapees. (Robert Maico/PNA)
