Rancho Palos Verdes reigns in PAL Interclub Golf tournament

BACOLOD CITY-- Rancho Palos Verdes (RPV) reigned as the champion of the Sportswriters Division in the 32nd Philippine Airlines Seniors Interclub golf team tournament.

Playing in a windy Negro Occidental Golf and Country Club on Sunday, RPV swingers seized the championship submitting an aggregate 103 points for a 454 total on the four-day tournament of the biggest club event in the country.

Lito Dublan led the team with 37 points during the final day of the tournament along with Abraham Dizom and Deo Cure who both hit 33 points while the 27 of Elias Arriba was not counted on the four-to-play-three-to-count scoring format.

In the four-day tournament, Noe Taojo who was the leading scorer for RPV for two days got a total 86 points followed by Randy Cadiogan with 77, Eugenio Serado 76, Josue Tesado 74 while Deo Cura and Dublan tied with 73 each, Abraham Dizom 65 and Arriba 61.

Behind RPV is the Forest Hills Golf Club hitting an aggregate 117 point on their final day contributing to their 434 final score.

Veterans Golf Club Team A that led the division in the first two days of the tournament slid to third spot with an aggregate 110 points to their 429 final scores.

Bacolod Golf ranked number four with a total 429 points while Iligan Golf and Country Club now took the 5th place tallying a total of 416 points in the tournament.

Meanwhile, Davao City Golf Club took the number six spot on the final day submitting an aggregate 106 points for their total 442 while Lanang Golf Team took the 11th spot hitting 106 points to their 410 total scores. Both teams are playing behind Alta Vista Golf and Country Club topping the division with 481 total points.

Also, Apo Golf and Country Club ranked 15th in the Founders Division hitting 117 points contributing to their 478 total on their final day.

Meanwhile, Roichi Horit and Nonoy Tirol each had 47 points and Kim Kwang Seok added 42 at Binitin as Cebu Country Club captured the Founders division with 542 points.

Negros Occidental Team A and Orchard tied for second place with 528 points apiece.

Alabang and Pueblo de Oro completed the top five with 524 and 515, respectively. In the Aviator class, Alta Vista drew 123 points from Ramon Sebastian (44), Razzy Razon (42) and Masahisa Kawakami (37) to win the Aviator bracket by eight points over Villamor.

The rest of the top five includes Fil-Am Hawaii (461), Iloilo Golf and Country Club (454) and Sarangani Golf and Country Club (445).

The Friendship bracket was won by South Bay of LA which totalled 437, following a 104-point effort at Binitin.

Scoring on the final day were Ronald Rojas 49, Rene Flores 41 and Nilo Liwag 28. Club 1872 LA finished second with 430, Fil-Oz Sydney third with 409, Canphil Golf Association fourth with 394 and Phil Am Golf of Central Florida fifth with 386.

The tournament is backed up by Primax Broadcasting, RMN and Fox, while major sponsors are BusinessWorld Publishing, Rolls Royce, TV5, Philippine Standard, Boeing, Under Armour, Eton Properties and Asia Brewery. (Armando Fenequito Jr/PNA)
