PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur -- The local police tightened security measures to ensure peaceful and solemn observance of the Holy Week in this city.

Supt. Benito Recopuerto, local police chief, on Wednesday said this as thousands of Catholic faithful are set to flock Churches and other religious gathering sites starting on Holy Thursday.

Recopuerto said the entire police force of this city has been placed on red alert status to prevent disturbance by lawless elements during the religious activities.

Recopuerto asked for public patience as checkpoints have been set up on roads leading to the city proper.

He said they have increased police visibility patrol in all public places such as Churches and other religious gathering sites, commercial centers, plazas and in the Integrated bus terminals.

He also requested the officials in the urban barangays to assist them by way of monitoring and to promptly report presence of lawless elements so that appropriate action can be done.

Personnel from the Provincial Mobile Force Company and Army’s 53rd Infantry Battalion have augmented the local police force in the maintenance of law and order during th Holy Week. (PNA)
