Abu Sayyaf leader, 12 followers surrender in Basilan

ZAMBOANGA CITY -- A leader of the notorious Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) surrendered along with 12 followers in Basilan province, a top military official disclosed Wednesday.

Brig. Gen. Juvymax Uy, Army’s 104th Infantry Brigade commander, said Nurhassan Jamiri and 12 of his followers surrendered Wednesday morning to the 3rd Scout Ranger Battalion in Lamitan City, Basilan.

The 3rd Scout Ranger Battalion headed by Lt. Col. Montano Almodovar turned over Jamiri and his followers to Uy.

No other details was available surrounding the surrender of Jamiri and his followers.

Jamiri is one of the leaders of the ASG based in Basilan province and was involved in several atrocities, including attacks on government troops. (PNA)
