Lanao Sur town ready for barangay, SK polls

MAGUING, Lanao del Sur -- Election and town officials are finalizing preparations to ensure a peaceful and orderly conduct of the elections for Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials in this town.

This municipality, which comprises 34 barangays, is a second class town of this province with a population of 24,531 based on the 2015 census.

“We are in massive preparation and we are 100 percent ready for the upcoming Barangay and SK elections after it was cancelled twice,” election officer Rosalma Omar Langi told the Philippine News Agency.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has set the conduct of the elections for Barangay and SK officials on May 14, this year.

The Comelec set the first day of filing of certificate of candidacy on Saturday, April 14.

Mayor Mamaulan Molok said the municipal government and barangay officials in close cordination with the police and military authorities have been campaigning for safe, clean and honest Barangay and SK elections.

“We hope and pray that we will have a peaceful Barangay and SK elections this May,” Molok said.

The municipal government in coordination with the military and police are also conducting campaign against loose firearms in this town.

Last month, residents of this town voluntarily surrendered 34 loose firearms to the Army’s 63rd Infantry Battalion through the facilitation of Molok. (PNA)
