Fire displaces 19 families in Pagadian City

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur--The city government on Friday distributed relief goods to help alleviate the plight of families displaced by a fire incident on Thursday in this city.

A total of 19 families were displaced while a fireman was injured when a fire razed 12 houses on Thursday in Purok Kapalaran, Barangay Balangasan, this city.

Haron Damada Jr., City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (CDRRMC) action officer, told the Philippine News Agency the fire victims were given non-food items such as kitchen utensils, used clothes, mats and blankets.

Damada said some of the families were staying with their relatives while the rest at the covered court in Balangasan.

Senior Insp. Edgar Quitoy, local fire marshal, said the fire broke out around 9:25 a.m. Thursday at the two story semi-concrete residence of Tenny Quirog and rapidly spread to nearby houses.

Quitoy said the fire was contained around 10:20 a.m. The estimated damage to property was place at Php1 million.

He said FO2 Nathaniel Maghinay sustained slight injury during the fire. (PNA)
