MANILA -- President Rodrigo R. Duterte has appointed acting secretaries to lead the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Duterte appointed Eliseo Mijares Rio Jr. as acting Secretary of the DICT. Rio has been the department’s officer-in-charge since the resignation of Rodolfo Salalima last year.

He also appointed DSWD Undersecretary Virginia Nazarrea Orogo as the department’s acting Secretary. Prior to Orogo’s appointment, Duterte designated DSWD Undersecretary Emmanuel Leyco as OIC after the ad interim appointment of Judy Taguiwalo was rejected by the Commission on Appointments last year.

Aside from Rio and Orogo, the President also appointed two members of the board of directors of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority -- Rolando Ednalino Ampunin, representing the national government, and Benasing Onayan Macarambon Jr., representing the business and investments sectors.

Their appointment papers were signed on Tuesday but were released to the media on Thursday. (PNA)
