MANILA -- About 99.81 percent of all barangays in the country have proclaimed their winning candidates in Monday’s Barangay (village) and Sangguniang Kabayaan (youth council) polls, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Tuesday.

Comelec Acting Chairman Al Parreño said as of 7 p.m., May 15, almost all barangays in the country have announced the winners in the village and youth elections.

“We’re almost done. Konti na lang (Only just a few left). Many of the barangays are huge, especially in Metro Manila,” he said in a press briefing on Tuesday night.

There are 42,044 barangays in the country.

Parreño added that the initial estimate of the voter turnout was placed at 75 percent.

On the other hand, Comelec Commissioner Sheriff Abas said that there was no failure of election reported in the recently concluded polls.

“We don’t have any failure of elections. We held elections in 100 percent of precincts,” he added.

Though the poll body official noted that there was a delay in a precinct in Northern Samar, the elections were still held there.

For his part, Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said in the 2013 polls, there were 130 failures of election reported. (PNA)
