DA’s Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR) Executive Director Nicomedes Eleazar said the Cagayan Valley Mushroom Research and Development Center aims to support the R&D activities on processing of agricultural waste into sustainable and competitive mushroom production towards food security and safety in the region.

The DA, through its research centers and experiment stations, had already initiated trainings on production and processing to interested farmers, cooperatives and local government units.

“There are now products out of mushroom developed such as rice mushroom polvoron, miki, crispy bites, chamfee, cookies, muffin, bola bola and many others,” Eleazar said.

Meanwhile, Eleazar was joined by Regional Executive Director Lorenzo Caranguian of DA-Cagayan Valley in formally opening the center located at the DA-Regional Crop Protection Center in San Vicente village.

The facility was funded by the Bureau of Agricultural Research. Its inauguration is part of DA-initiated Panagdadapun and first Makan Festival. (PNA)
