ZAMBOANGA CITY--authorities  foiled the killing of a barangay official as they arrested the alleged trigger man in the province of Zamboanga del Norte, police said Wednesday.

Chief Insp. Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) information officer, identified the would-be trigger man as Junel Tome, 42, a resident of Barangay Talisay, Dapitan City.

Galvez said Tome was arrested by the personnel of the Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB) and Regional mobile Force Battalion-9 (RMFB-9) around 6 a.m. along Road 27, Barangay Dawo, Dapitan City.

Galvez said Tome’s arrest came after the PIB personnel received information that the suspect has been contracted to kill a barangay official in that city. She did not name the barangay official for security reasons.

She said the arresting team confiscated from the suspect’s possession a caliber .45 pistol and a grenade.

The suspect is being detained while investigation continues to determine who is behind the alleged plot, she said. (PNA)
