MANILA -- Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Monday met with presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, a week after her ascension to the leadership of the House of Representatives.

The meeting took place during lunch at the Seda Hotel in Quezon City.

Arroyo also shared the "thank you lunch" with members of the House of Representatives.

Last Monday, Arroyo was elected as the new Speaker with 184 votes following the ouster of Davao del Norte Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez.

The lower chamber held a special session immediately after President Rodrigo R. Duterte’s third State of the Nation Address to formally install Arroyo as its new head.

It was reported that the ouster move against Alvarez has the support of the younger Duterte, who earlier had a spat with Alvarez.

The squabble between Alvarez and Duterte-Carpio began last February, when the former called the latter part of the opposition after she formed the regional political party, Hugpong ng Pagbabago. (PNA)
