TAGUM CITY, Davao del Norte -- Presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio thanked Senator Panfilo Lacson for citing her as a potential leader in national politics.
"I would like to thank him for his trust and confidence," Duterte-Carpio said, addressing Lacson in an interview on the sidelines of the mass oath-taking of the mayor's regional party Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) here.
Lacson said Duterte-Carpio has all the qualities of a good leader: strong-willed, stern, vibrant and progressive-minded. He said the Davao mayor is his "top choice" among the country's young leaders.
Mayor Sara, however, dismissed speculations that she is gunning for a Senate seat following the launch of the "Inday Sara Duterte for Senator Movement", spearheaded by Cebu City Councilor Erik Manuel Espina.
Duterte-Carpio reiterated that she has no intention to run for a national post because she wants to continue serving the Dabawenyos.
She was among the possible senatorial candidates included in the magic 12 of the surveys of Pulse Asia and Social Weather Stations.
Earlier, her father President Rodrigo Duterte said the mayor is not keen on seeking a senatorial position in the mid-term election next year. (Armando Fenequito Jr/PNA)
