SILANG, Cavite -- This year's “Arengkadang Paglilingkod," a weeklong public service caravan of the city government starting Aug. 13, will provide the youth and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) sectors a venue to voice out their advocacies and publicize their programs.

“On Aug. 14, we have the ‘Oras ng Pagpapahalaga’ which is a campus-based program, and assigned a day, Aug. 16 for the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation and the LGBT community to hold their activities,” Silang Community Affairs chief Noah Caasi said Tuesday.

An annual tradition since 2004, the ‘Arengkadang Paglilingkod’ public service caravan was initially held to celebrate former town mayor Clarito “Areng” Poblete’s birth week, father of the incumbent Mayor Emilia Lourdes F. Poblete. Poblete seeks to sustain the legacy of her father in bringing public service to her constituents.

Another first for this year’s event is the launching of its Negosyo Center and Local Investment and Promotion Office (LEIPO) on Aug. 15 (Wednesday).

The most anticipated caravan allows local folks to avail of various government services and other assistance.

The government agencies joining the caravan include the Land Transportation Office (LTO), PhilHealth, Social Security System (SSS), Pag-IBIG, PhilPost, Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), and private firm Manila Electric Company.

LTO will receive application for student permit, renewal of driver’s license and vehicle registration from Monday to Friday.

Silangueños may also apply for a PhilPost ID, as well as update or inquire on their SSS and PhilHealth contributions during the caravan, while gun owners who wish to apply for their license to own and possess firearms (LTOPF) are advised to avail of the one-day processing at the town’s municipal hall on Aug. 16.

DFA’s mobile passporting will be held on Saturday (Aug. 18), starting 8:30 a.m.

On top of these government services are other health and wellness services like free medical, dental, eye checkup and pampering services plus a job fair for local and overseas job placement.

A farm tour, to promote Silang’s leisure destinations and agri-tourism sites is the main activity for Aug. 17, with interesting and special add-ons this year because of the free guiding tour seminar at the town’s Patio Medina afterwards.

The local government will also accept applications for free patent, distribute free seedlings and conduct free animal castration and anti-rabies vaccination during the weeklong event.

The culminating activity on Aug. 18 will start with a thanksgiving mass, followed by a cultural presentation and awarding of land titles to the already processed applications for free patent at the Silang campus of Cavite State University.

Silang, one of Cavite’s second oldest towns, has evolved from an agricultural municipality to an Agro-Industrial haven as significant number of various industries and diverse commercial investments have already entered.
