MANILA -- The Commission on Elections (Comelec) received close to 2.3 million applications in the first month of the resumption of the continuing voter registration nationwide for the May 13, 2019 midterm polls.
According to the latest data from the Election and Barangay Affairs Department (EBAD), the poll body has already received 2,297,606 applications from July 2 to July 28, 2018.
Of the total number of applications received and processed nationwide, 1,037,265 are male applicants while 1,260,341 are female.
It added that the number of application for registration were 1,054,067, while that for transfer of registration records numbered 895,246.
Applications for reactivation were 179,254; for change/correction of entries, 168,326; for inclusion of record in the book of voters, 441; and for reinstatement of name on the list of voters, 272.
Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez reported that many applicants have applied for the transfer of their registration records.
“One factor in the upsurge in submissions is the influx of applicants intending to have their registration records transferred, since applications for transfers were not allowed in the previous rounds of voter registration ahead of the 2018 Barangay and SK Elections,” he said in a statement Wednesday.
The EBAD data also revealed that Region 4-A (Calabarzon) recorded the most number of applications with 372,834, seconded by Region 3 (Central Luzon) at 260,712, and the National Capital Region (NCR) at 255,796.
The continuing registration of voters will run until September 29.
Applications shall be personally filed at the Offices of the Election Officer (OEOs) of the city/district/municipality, where the applicant resides, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., every Mondays to Saturdays, including holidays.
Satellite registration activities are also being conducted nationwide in barangay halls, public/private schools, commercial establishments, detention center/jail or resettlement areas, areas with Indigenous Community, and other public places to ensure wider voter participation. (PNA)
