DUMAGUETE CITY -- A suspected drug pusher was shot dead over the weekend in Barangay Looc, Dumaguete City by suspects he may have connections with and whom he may have double-crossed.

City police chief, Supt. Jonathan Pineda, said Monday that initially, the victim was not considered a drug personality as he was not on their watch list.

Close monitoring of the victim, however, showed that he was engaged in the illegal drugs trade, Pineda said.

A police report identified the slain suspect as Ariel Barredo, 29, and resident of Barangay Batinguel, Dumaguete City. He was declared dead on arrival at a local hospital here.

“Mamostehay na sya didto sa area ma kadlawon (He transacts in the area at dawn),” Pineda said.

The police chief said the suspect is from Barangay Batinguel, Dumaguete and “his background is that he is a “kawatan” (thief) in Batinguel.”

At the same time, the Dumaguete police is also verifying reports that the man had served time in jail for motorcycle theft, Pineda said.

So far, no witness has surfaced to cooperate with the police in the investigation.

Meanwhile, a volunteer of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental was arrested by the police over the weekend for allegedly pushing illegal drugs.

The suspect was identified as Kevin Cortes Tan, 25, single and resident of Barangay Poblacion, Guihulngan City.

A police report said Tan was arrested in Barangay Bulado, Guihulngan City during a buy-bust operation.

Confiscated from him were PHP500 in marked buy-bust money and a heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet containing suspected “shabu” (crystal meth).

The suspect is now behind bars as proper criminal charges are to be filed against him for violation of Republic Act (RA) No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.

Also over the weekend, police nabbed a suspected illegal drugs dealer during the serving of a search warrant.

A report from Pineda identified the suspect as Dennis Llinos Calidguid, 26, single, and resident of Dao Extension in Barangay Piapi, Dumaguete City.

He was arrested after a search of his residence yielded suspected illegal drugs.

Elements of the City Drug Enforcement Unit of the Dumaguete police implemented against Calidguid a search warrant issued by Negros Oriental Executive Judge Gerardo Paguio Jr. for violation of RA 9165.

During the search, the police operatives confiscated a large volume of suspected shabu in two medium-sized plastic sachets, one large plastic sachet, and 22 elongated transparent plastic sachets, along with drug paraphernalia.

The suspect is now under detention following the filing of appropriate charges against him. (PNA)
