Zambo cops arrest 2, seize guns, explosive components

ZAMBOANGA CITY -- A team of police and military operatives on Wednesday arrested two people and seized firearms and bomb-making components, an official said Wednesday.

Chief Insp. Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) information officer, identified the arrested suspects as Sagumbahar Sagumayan Akbar and Samandi Tutuh Imbas, both residents of Barangay Taluksangay, this city.

Galvez said they were arrested around 5:30 a.m. in Purok 6, Barangay Taluksangay through search warrants issued by the court for violation of Republic Act No. 10591 otherwise known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

She said recovered at the residence of Akbar were: one M-16 Armalite rifle; a caliber .45 pistol; a 9-mm pistol; several rounds of ammunition a rifle grenade; and a rifle bag.

Recovered at the residence of Imbas were: two one-liter soft drink bottles filled with ammonium nitrate; and a caliber .45 pistol; ammunition.

Galvez said Akbar and Imbas are now detained while appropriate charges are set to be filed against them. (PNA)
