CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan -- Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff General Carlito Galvez Jr. made a nostalgic homecoming to this historic province on Wednesday.

A true-blooded Bulakenyo, Galvez was guest speaker during the celebration of the 440th founding anniversary of Bulacan, which was  held at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium here.

“Unang-una sa lahat (First of all), thank you for the privilege of being born as a Bulakenyo and I am happy to be back. Bilang isang anak ng Bulacan, wala nang hihigit pa sa karangalang maanyaya dito, tulad ng isang anak na nasasabik na makauwi sa kanyang tahanan (As a son of Bulacan, nothing compares to the honor of being invited here, like a son who is excited to return to his home),” said Galvez, who came with his wife, parents and other members of his family.

He said Bulacan reached its 440th year of establishment after having helped mold the history of this country.

“In the passing time and through trials, it remains as one of the cornerstones of our independent Philippines,” Galvez said.

Meanwhile, Governor Wilhelmino M. Sy–Alvarado cited the importance of looking back at the past, saying that those memories would help everyone to better face the future.

“Napakahalagang muli nating lingunin ang nakaraan at patuloy na pasiklabin ang kanyang alaala kung nais nating mabunying harapin ang maningning na pagbubukang liwayway ng kinabukasan (It is very important that we look back at the past and keep its memory alive if we want to boldly face the bright dawn of the future),” Alvarado said.

Likewise, he expressed his appreciation to the people who sacrificed their lives to liberate Bulacan and the nation.

During Wednesday's event, the governor also enumerated the successful projects that materialized during his administration, as well as the provincial government's future projects for Bulacan. (PNA)
