2 killed, 2 others nabbed in Davao City buy-bust ops

DAVAO CITY -- An army reservist and his companion were killed in a shootout with police authorities during a buy-bust operation against illegal drugs on Monday night at Belisario Village, Barangay San Antonio, Agdao, this city.

In another buy-bust operation on Monday, police also arrested two persons suspected of peddling illegal drugs.

Sta. Ana chief of police Chief Insp. Michael Uyanguren said Jaime Onain Moin, a Philippine Army reservist of Landmark, Buhangin; and Alvin Musa Daris, a resident of Saphire Landmark, Buhangin engaged policemen in a shootout after the latter declared an arrest following a buy-bust involving a sachet of suspected shabu.

Instead of submitting to the authorities, Uyanguren said Moin and Daris engaged the policemen in a shootout but were overpowered.

Uyanguren said the operating team rushed the suspects to the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) for medical treatment but were declared dead on arrival.

The Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) recovered from the scene a .45 cal pistol loaded with ammunition, a homemade .38 cal revolver loaded with ammunition, six pieces of fired shells believed to be of 9-mm caliber, and other documents and IDs.

At the hospital, SOCO said it recovered from Moin's body an ID, PHP1000 bill and seven sachets of shabu. Investigators also recovered a sachet of shabu from Daris.

The total drug evidence has an estimated weight of 2.075 grams with an estimated street value of PHP13,000.

Meanwhile, at around 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Sta Ana Police Station Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU) conducted buy-bust operation based on the information from a concerned citizen that a person was seen selling suspected shabu.

The operation resulted in the arrest of Vincent Guadalquivir Gumanid, 37, male, single, and a resident of Purok 3 Forrestal, Cabantian, Buhangin. Upon frisking, authorities recovered four sachets of shabu with a street value of around PHP5, 000.

Around 11:50 p.m. on the same day, a tricycle driver was also arrested while the Police Mobile 14 was patrolling along Gempesaw St., corner Ponce St., Barangay 28-C.

Erwin Ening Abayon, 30, male, single, and a resident of Kalye Putol, Barangay 33-D was caught in the act of offering a sachet of shabu to a person, police said. Abayon yielded two sachets of shabu valued at PHP1,000.

All suspects are now in the custody of the Sta. Ana police for the filing of appropriate cases, in relation to the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (Rhoda Grace Saron/PNA)
