MANILA -- The Quezon City local government on Tuesday granted a PHP6.3-million financial aid to the Philippine Red Cross (PRC).

The Quezon City Council passed a resolution authorizing Mayor Herbert Bautista to grant a PHP6.3-million assistance to the PRC to defray the accident and health insurance for members of the Quezon City Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) and Girl Scouts of the Philippines (GSP).

City Resolution 7462-2018, which was authored by Councilor Godofredo Liban II, states that “the grant is in response to a Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Memorandum Circular, which will form part of the City Mayor’s capability to build up program, to insure and give assistance, health benefits and priority to blood in case of emergency.”

Through a memorandum of agreement, the PRC agreed to provide accidental and medical assistance benefits to members and insurance coverage for one year and build up Red Cross Youth Council in GSP and BSP in each school/per district of Quezon City.

The BSP is the National Scout Organization of the Philippines.

“It is a form of good governance to utilize the resources and funds of the City as efficiently and as effectively as possible to finance the delivery of basic services, and the enhancement of various social and economic activities for the prosperity and progress of the people of the City,” the resolution said.
