ILOILO CITY -- Starting this school year 2018-2019, the Department of Education - Guimaras Division will adopt the Results–based Performance Management System (RPMS), which is aligned with the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST) in rating their teachers.

Principals and supervisors from the Guimaras Division gathered in Iloilo City starting Wednesday for a three-day roll out for the new rating system to be properly understood and implemented correctly, said Division Superintendent Ma. Luz de los Reyes in an interview.

The preparation of the rating manual was funded by the Australian Aid through the Basic Education Sector Transformation (BEST). The manual contains the ideal behavior or standard for proficient, highly proficient and distinguished teachers.

She stressed that the new manual is well-crafted and it’s being followed nationwide. Before every division has a separate interpretation of the standards, she said.

“It looks into the impact in the classroom because the standard that was set by the PPST is more focused on the classroom, curriculum, utilization of technology, creativity and community,” she said.

Teachers won’t have a hard time complying so they can focus more on the classroom demands and their responsibilities, she added.

The tools are easy and friendly. It suggests what to look for in order to support their performance.

“If the teacher is confident on what she does, she will be inspired because her actual performance will be recognized. It will all redound to the classroom and to the child,” De los Reyes added.

The teacher’s rating is the basis for the performance-based bonus (PBB) that is given to government employees annually.

“We want them to feel that PPST-RPMS this time is very important, with urgency so they won’t take this for granted,” she stated. (PNA)
