MANILA -- Floods were reported in parts of Metro Manila early Monday due to continuous rains caused by the southwest monsoon enhanced by Typhoon "Maymay" (international name Jebi).

In an advisory, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said flooding was reported in the following areas as of 4:50 a.m.:

  • R. Papa both bounds - Knee deep. Not passable to light vehicles
  • Moumento area - Gutter deep. Passable to all vehicles
  • McArthur Highway both directions - Gutter deep. Passable to all vehicles
  • Balintawak A. Bonifacio Ave under the bridge northbound - Gutter deep. Passable to all vehicles
  • EDSA Balintawak southbound - Gutter deep, outermost lane is knee deep

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said "Maymay" has slightly weakened and is now outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

The typhoon has no direct effect in any part of the country. However, the southwest monsoon will bring scattered light to moderate to at times heavy rains over Metro Manila, Pangasinan, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol region and Zamboanga Peninsula. (PNA)
