MANILA -- Local carrier Cebu Pacific (CEB) cancelled its Manila-Japan and Japan-Manila flights on Tuesday afternoon due to Typhoon Jebi.

In an advisory, CEB said that as of 2 p.m. Tuesday, operations at Kansai International Airport were suspended until further notice. The airline added that the airport is currently flooded due to the storm surge brought by "Jebi."

CEB flights 5J 828 Manila-Osaka (originally scheduled to depart in the afternoon and arrive in the evening) and 5J 827 Osaka-Manila (supposed to depart in the evening and arrive early Wednesday) were cancelled.

According to website accuweather.com, "Jebi" made landfall in eastern Shikoku around midday Tuesday. "Jebi" has the equivalent strength to that of a Category 3 hurricane, the website added.

The Japanese government advised thousands of residents to evacuate early.

Flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) earlier announced Japan flight cancellations and delays last Monday afternoon. (PNA)
