Ilocos youth group rolls out activities on Marcos Fiesta

LAOAG CITY—In time for the Sept. 11 Marcos Day celebration in the province, the Ilocos Norte Youth Development Office (INYDO), in partnership with the Sirib Ilocano Kabataan Association here, is taking the lead in the program preparation.

This year, the Marcos Fiesta celebration to commemorate the 101st birth anniversary of former president Ferdinand E. Marcos will kick-off on September 7, Friday, with a series of events at the Robinsons Place activity area in San Nicolas town.

Weenter Ventura, Executive Director of the INYDO said a debate cup senior division will highlight tomorrow’s opening program to be participated by students of Senior High School and college levels.

Other activities on the same day include a quiz show, contemporary dance and quartet competition, open to all schools in the province.

On September 8, there will also be the Imelda and Ferdie look-a-like contest, creative storytelling, and speech choir competition.

“A job fair will also be conducted at the Robinsons Mall on September 9 with government agencies and private business groups participating,” said Ventura.

But unlike in previous years when the Marcos family opt to celebrate FM's birthday with fun fare in the province, Governor Ma. Imelda Josefa Marcos told in an interview that her mom, former first lady and incumbent Congresswoman Imelda Marcos wish that the final commemoration rite will be held at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, to be attended by close family members, friends and supporters.

In Batac City and Sarrat town, officials and residents will offer a separate thanksgiving mass and simple wreath laying ceremony to honor the favorite son of the province. (PNA)
