BACOLOD CITY -- The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has dismissed a report that an airplane crashed in the mountains of Negros Occidental on Thursday night.

The statement was issued by CAAP Bacolod-Silay Airport on Friday after a radio station here reported both on-air and on social media that a certain passenger plane supposedly went down around 8 pm,  the night before.

The report circulated on social media site Facebook, causing alarm to residents of Negros Occidental.

The CAAP added that based on the report of the Bacolod Airport Tower, all aircrafts, both in commercial and general aviation traffic, were all accounted for on Thursday night.

“Our office coordinated with Philippine Rescue Coordination Center regarding the alleged reported plane crash, but the result is negative,” it added.

Earlier on Friday, Zeaphard Gerhart Caelian, head of Negros Occidental Provincial Disaster Management Program Division, said in a news report that they coordinated with the CAAP and that the airport tower has not monitored a plane crash in the province. (PNA)
