DAVAO CITY -- Davao City will host an event that will gather "indipreneurs" or early-stage ventures for idea incubation on Friday, September 21, at the Radisson Hotel here.

Dubbed the Open Collaboration with East Asian Networks (OCEAN) Summit, the event involves lectures, pitching and panel engagements, and networking.

In a press release on Tuesday, organizers said the summit hopes to enable entrepreneurs as community "changemakers".

According to OCEAN founder and CEO of Amihan Global Strategies (AGS) Winston Damarillo, a Silicon Valley veteran, the term "indipreneurs" is used to highlight that fact that the entrepreneurs and enterprises under this category are independent and have the potential to scale up tremendously and shake up their sectors.

AGS is a technology and consulting firm that brings together globally-educated and homegrown professionals, leveraging expertise with local knowledge to transform how business is being done in the Philippines and ASEAN.

Damarillo said OCEAN aims to ignite the industry, policy and government support for the leading innovators in non-tech related sectors.

The workshop will feature talks that are intended to strengthen ventures, refine business fundamental knowledge, and create impact in six identified sectors -- creative economy, education, food, global Filipino engagement, healthcare, and tourism.

This series is held in line with the upcoming OCEAN Summit in Cebu in November, which will serve as "indipreneurs" platform to connect with key stakeholders.

As one of the instructors in the workshop, Damarillo will discuss "Kickstarting Your Ventures" alongside Richard Dacalos, who will handle "Masterclass in Pitching".

Global Shapers Hub curator and social entrepreneur Mitch Miclat will also share best practices of homegrown businesses and how these thrive through various innovations.

Damarillo said a panel engagement tackling the MSME Ecosystem will also take place with industry leader and social entrepreneur Jun Rloha(?).

Other panelists include Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-11 Business Development Division chief Ivy Uy, Malagos Farmhouse founder and cheese maker Olive Puentespina, and social enterprise Olivia and Diego founder Yana Santiago. (Digna D. Banzon/PNA)
