Zambo Norte village official dies after fall from cliff

ZAMBOANGA CITY -- A barangay official died of severe injuries after falling into a 150-meter high cliff in the  Zamboanga del Norte town of Katipunan, police said Wednesday.

Chief Insp. Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) information officer, identified the fatality as Rolan Lumon, 31, a councilor of Barangay Malasay, Katipunan.

Galvez said the incident happened around 2 a.m. Tuesday in Sitio Salwagan, Barangay Baluc, Katipunan.

She said the official and his brother-in-law, Sannyboy Sumampon, were on the way home when the victim lost his balance and fell towards the 150-meter high rocky cliff.

Lumon died instantly due to severe injuries.

Lumon and Sumampon came from fishing at a nearby river when the incident happened, police said. (PNA)
