MANILA -- The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday said up to 70 persons remain unaccounted for following the onslaught of Typhoon Ompong.
In its consolidated partial report, PNP spokesman Senior Supt. Benigno Durana Jr. said the death toll stands at 81, with 71 wounded.
Citing reports from police regional offices in the affected areas, Durana said there are 17,216 evacuees presently taking shelter in 5,485 evacuation centers.
A total of 355 individuals have been rescued by the PNP.
Some 948 PNP personnel have been deployed in evacuation areas and 223 in vacated communities, while 1,697 PNP personnel have been affected by the disaster.
A total of 12,864 houses and infrastructure were destroyed mostly in the Cordillera, Ilocos, and Cagayan Valley regions.
A total of 74 roads remain impassable and 2,186 areas remain without electricity.
There are presently 5,208 search and rescue personnel deployed and 7,497 others are on standby, Durana said. (PNA)
