MANILA -- The confirmed death toll from the onslaught of Typhoon Ompong has climbed to 23.
This was bared by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) in its Thursday afternoon update signed by Executive Director Ricardo Jalad.
This figure is out of the 63 reported "Ompong"-related deaths.
As of this posting, the figures for those who were confirmed missing and injured from the typhoon stand at two out of 53, and 21 out of 51, respectively.
As this develops, the number of affected families are now pegged at 345,158 or 1,436,997 individuals residing in 4,216 barangays in Regions 1 (Ilocos), 2 (Cagayan Valley), 3 (Central Luzon), 4A (Calabarzon), 4B (Mimaropa), National Capital Region (NCR) and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
Families still being aided in 390 evacuation centers are placed at 13,949, which is equivalent to 54,935 persons while those being helped in the outside are placed 20,706 families or around 84,674 individuals.
The number of houses damaged by "Ompong" is placed at 44,599, 3,610 totally and 40,989 partially, in Regions 1,2, 3 and the CAR. (PNA)
