DTI-11 holds summit for young entrepreneurs

DAVAO CITY – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-11 is holding the Davao Youth Entrepreneurship Summit or Davao YES! 2018 on Sept. 28, aimed at promoting entrepreneurship as a career option for the youth.

The one-day summit will gather 150 participants composed of young entrepreneurs, entrepreneurship and business students, senior high school students, indigenous youth and persons with disability (PWD) youth from all over the region.

DTI-11 Director Maria Belenda Ambi said topics on entrepreneurial mind-setting and business opportunities in social, green and digital entrepreneurship will be discussed.

Ambi said successful young entrepreneurs like Gawad Kalinga Enchanted Farm head of social enterprise development Leonard Dungca and head of training and development Louis Faure will be among the resource persons.

"It is organized to promote and foster an entrepreneurial spirit and mindset among our young people,” she said.

“The involvement of youth in entrepreneurship is significant because they are considered to be catalysts of change and progress. They are also excellent champions of creativity, innovation and fresh thinking," she added.

Ambi noted that the country's median age is 23 years old.

“This means that the outlook for the country is really positive especially if we can properly train and educate these young people. We are hopeful that we can develop more entrepreneurs from this sector,” she said. (Jenny Mendoza/PNA)
