PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur – A total of 150 fishermen here are expected to get a boost in their livelihood after receiving motorboats from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the local government on Wednesday.

Mayor Romeo Pulmones led the distribution to the beneficiary fishermen from the 12 coastal barangays of this city held at the fish port in Barangay San Pedro.

Pulmones said DOLE allotted PHP3 million with PHP750,000 equity from the city government to realize the implementation of the project.

Each unit, which is powered by a 6.5 horsepower engine, costs PHP25,000.

Bienvenido Culve, public employment service officer and project coordinator, said the fishermen will undergo orientation to sustain the project.

He told the beneficiaries that the motorboats are non-transferable and that they will be monitored monthly through the barangay councils.

Pulmones expressed gratitude to Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III and Undersecretary Renato Ebarle, who is from Pagadian City, for providing the fishermen a livelihood project.

The distribution of the motorboats was witnessed by other officials of DOLE, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), and local government officials. (PNA)
