DAVAO CITY -- The government of the People’s Republic of China, through its embassy in the Philippines, has donated PHP150 million for the construction of 13 school buildings in this city.

The donation was given through the Tapang at Malasakit Alliance, which serves as a conduit between the Chinese government and the Department of Education (DepEd) for the project.

Mayor Sara Duterte, who is the lead convenor of Tapang at Malasakit, spearheaded the ceremonial groundbreaking in Agdao Elementary School on Friday, coinciding with the World Teacher’s Day celebration.

The activity was also attended by Zhao Zinhua, Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines.

“This ceremonial groundbreaking is a testimony of a shared commitment of various stakeholders, who prioritized the education of our youth,” Mayor Sara said, thanking the Chinese government.

“Education and investing in the youth are truly a worthwhile endeavor that we, as Dabawenyos, must undertake. With partners and friends from various sectors in our city and even outside the country, I believe that our children’s future will be brighter and more secure,” Sara said.

Zhao said the People’s Republic of China is very happy to extend a little donation after seeing how the city values education.

“Education is the key to the betterment of young people,” Zhao said.

Aside from Agdao Elementary School, other school buildings to be built are for Acacia Elementary School, Mudiang Elementary School, San Miguel Elementary School, Mabuhay National High School, Baguio Central Elementary School, Cadalian Elementary School, Malalan Elementary School, Upper Sirib Elementary School, Ula Elementary School, Wines High School - Ampon Campus, Marilog National High School, and Salaysay National High School.
