MANILA -- The Department of Justice (DOJ) has subpoenaed Trece Martires Mayor Milandres de Sagun and four others over the murder of city Vice Mayor Alexander Lubigan.

Aside from de Sagun, also subpoenaed were Ariel F. Paiton of Barangay Cabuco, Trece Martires; Luis Abad Jr. of Ligtong, Rosario, Cavite; Municipal Councilor Lawrence "Umbe" Arca of Maragondon, Cavite; and Rhonel Bersamina of Barangay San Miguel B. Maragondon.

Senior Assistant State Prosecutor Rassendell Rex F. Gingoyon ordered the parties to attend the hearing at the DOJ on Oct. 12 and file their respective counter affidavits.

On Sept. 13, the Philippine National Police filed a complaint before the DOJ, which subsequently formed a panel of prosecutors to handle the case.

Lubigan and his driver Romulo Guillemer died in an ambush in front of the Korean Philippines Hospital in Barangay Luciano along the Trece Martires-Indang Road on July 7. His bodyguard Romeo Edrinal was wounded in the attack.

Police are eyeing political rivalry between the erstwhile running mates as motive for the crime. (PNA)
