ZAMBOANGA CITY--Authorities arrested five people, including three newly-identified drug personalities and a former policeman, and seized more or less PHP150,000 worth of illegal drugs, in separate operations here in the region, police said Wednesday.

The arrested suspects were identified as Morsin Muhajiran, 39; Jonny Andus, 36 and his brother, Roberto, 20; Saipal Haradji, 40; and, Almuzaid Asakil.

Chief Insp. Arlan Delumpines, chief of the Police Station 7 under the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO), said Muhajiran was arrested in a buy-bust operation at around 12 noon in Barangay San Roque, this city.

Delumpines said they planned the buy-bust operation after they received a report on Tuesday about the illegal drug trade activity of Muhajiran, a newly-identified drug personality.

He said they confiscated from Muhajiran suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride commonly known as shabu worth P150,000, packed in 16 heat-sealed plastic sachets.

Chief Insp. Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-9 information officer, said the Andus brothers were arrested in a buy-bust operation at around 11 p.m. Tuesday in Barangay Bacong, Salug, Zamboanga del Norte.

Galvez said the Andus brothers, both listed as newly-identified drug personalities, were caught by policemen and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) agents in possession of four sachets of suspected shabu with an estimated PHP2,000 street value, PHP300 marked money, and PHP680 cash believed to be proceeds from the sale of illegal drugs.

Galvez said Haradji, who is a former policeman, and Asakil were arrested in another buy-bust operation at around 5:20 p.m. Tuesday in Atilano Drive, Barangay Baliwasan, this city.

Police recovered from the two suspects three sachets of suspected shabu worth PHP1,500, a police identification card bearing the name of Haradji, and PHP300 marked money consisting of three PHP100 bills.

The five suspects were detained while charges of violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 are being readied against them. (PNA)
