MANILA -- Typhoon Yutu intensified as it continues to move towards the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
In its 4 a.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Yutu was spotted 2,535 kilometers east of Central Luzon.
'Yutu', packing maximum sustained winds of up to 210 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 260 kph, is moving northwest at 20 kph.
PAGASA weather forecaster Gener Quitlong, however, said 'Yutu' may weaken once it passes through dry and cold air due to the northeasterly surface wind flow as it enters PAR.
'Yutu' is likely to enter PAR on Saturday and will be given the local name 'Rosita'.
Meanwhile, an inter-tropical convergence zone (ITCZ) continues to affect Mindanao.
The Davao Region and South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat , Sarangani plus General Santos City (SOCCSKSARGEN) will have cloudy skies, with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms, caused by ITCZ.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.
Temperature in Metro Manila ranges from 23-32 degrees Celsius; Tuguegarao City 21-32 degrees Celsius; Baguio City 14-24 degrees Celsius; Angeles City 24-32 degrees Celsius; Lipa City 23-33 degrees Celsius; Metro Cebu 25-32 degrees Celsius; and Metro Davao 25-33 degrees Celsius. (PNA)
