P177-K 'shabu' seized in Dumaguete raid

DUMAGUETE CITY - Elements of the Provincial Intelligence Branch-Special Operations Group (PIB-SOG) of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Negros Oriental raided the residence of a suspected drug peddler Friday afternoon in Barangay Mangnao, Dumaguete City and seized some PHP177,000 worth of alleged shabu.

Armed with a search warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Executive Judge Gerardo Paguio, Jr., the operatives arrested the subject, Antonio U. Academia, 33, married, after he yielded 15 grams of suspected shabu with a Dangerous Drugs Board-estimated value of PHP177,000.

PIB-SOG team leader Senior Insp. Armel Von Alegria and Insp. Allen June Germodo disclosed they received complaints from residents in the neighborhood about the activity of the suspect and so a test buy, validation and monitoring were conducted until the residence of the subject situated at Purok Ipil-ipil, Mangnao was searched.

Also recovered were illegal drugs paraphernalia and suspected drug sale proceeds

Village chief Ramel Tayko confirmed that the suspect had been warned several times to stop his alleged nefarious activities, but he denied being involved in illegal drugs. (PNA)
