DAVAO CITY -- The Criminal Investigation Detection Group (CIDG) on Thursday arrested an ex-mayor in Surigao del Sur with a standing warrant for graft case.

CIDG agents, backed by the Talomo police personnel, arrested former Tagbina town mayor Rufo C. Pabelonia, 65, in his residence in Matina Pangi, this city.

Chief Insp. Milgrace Driz, chief of the CIDG-Davao City Field Unit, said Pabelonia was Tagbina mayor from 1986 to 1995.

Driza said the warrant against the former local chief executive was issued by the Sandiganbayan on July 19, 2006, after he failed to appear in the scheduled arraignment on September 2002 in relation to his graft case.

Pabelonia was detained at the Talomo Police Station.

Driz said Pabelonia will be brought to Sandiganbayan for the proper disposition of his case.

“We will implement our mandate to hunt down persons with warrants and to bring them to the fold of law without fear or favor,” Driz said. (Lilian C Mellejor/PNA)
