'Rosita' leaves over P124-M in agri, infra damage in Aurora

BALER, Aurora -- Damage to agriculture and infrastructure in areas devastated by Typhoon "Rosita" (Yutu) in this province last week has been estimated at PHP124.35 million.

Elson Amado A. Egargue, head of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), in his report to the PDRRMC led by acting Governor Rommel Rico T. Angara on Monday, said agriculture suffered about PHP122.30 million in losses while damage to infrastructure was placed at PHP2.05 million.

Egargue said that agricultural losses covered crops, livestock and fisheries.

He said the town of Dilasag reported the biggest agricultural losses with PHP48.56 million in crops; PHP440,725 in livestock and PHP70,000 in fisheries.

This was followed by Casiguran with PHP42.4 million losses in crops; PHP254,500 in livestock and PHP121,000 in fisheries.

Other towns that suffered losses were Maria Aurora (PHP10.177 million); Dipaculao (PHP9.72 million); San Luis (PHP5.419 million); Baler (PHP3.452 million) and Dinalungan (PHP1.684 million).

Egargue also said most of the infrastructure damage were in the town of Dilasag worth PHP1.7 million and a portion of Baler seawall in Sitio Castillo, Barangay Sabang amounting to PHP350,000.

“The municipality of Dingalan has no damages reported in terms of agriculture and infrastructure,” he said.

Egargue also said that seven fishing vessels were reported destroyed during the height of the typhoon -- four in Casiguran and three in Dilasag.

He also said a total of 654 houses were damaged.

Egargue also said that 6,079 families or 19,937 residents were affected by "Rosita" in this province, adding that those who evacuated to safer grounds "have already returned to their homes”. (PNA)
