Go vows to raise teachers’ pay if elected to Senate

MANILA — Former Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Go vowed to push for the increase of salaries of public school teachers if given a Senate seat.

"The increase of the salaries of teachers was already promised by the President during the convention of school principals in Davao City," Go said over the weekend, as he recalled President Rodrigo Duterte’s commitment to gradually increase the salary of the public school teachers.

Teachers, he said, sacrifice a lot to be able to provide students better education, and are equally important to public service.

Go said he will remind President Duterte on the matter.

"If given a chance (to be elected as senator) I will be your bridge to the President," Go stressed.

The former presidential aide, meanwhile, said teachers will have to wait for the completion of the four-year Salary Standardization Law in 2019.

"Let us just wait for 2019. But as of this time, let me know if there is anything I can help you with and I will relay it to the President," Go said. (PR)
