2 Army athletes bag awards in Indonesia marathon

MANILA -- Two Philippine Army (PA) troopers were among the top runners in the recently concluded Indonesian National Armed Forces International Marathon 2018 held at the Kuta Beach, Mandalika, Lombok, Indonesia last November 4.

In a statement Monday, the PA said Cpl. Jho-an Banayag Villarma won the bronze medal in the women’s 21K category with the time of 1 hour, 37 minutes and 50.4 seconds.

"She won a cash prize worth 28 million rupiah or an equivalent of PHP100,000, " PA spokesperson Lt. Col. Louie Villanueva said.

Villanueva also confirmed that Cpl. Richard Salaño placed sixth in the event and won a cash prize worth 15 million rupiah (PHP57,000).

The marathon was organized to celebrate the 73rd anniversary of the Indonesian National Armed Forces.

Villanueva said thousands of runners comprised of students, community members of the Indonesian National Armed Forces, International Armed Forces/Police and national, as well as international athletes, participated in the event.

"The PA supports its athletes in their endeavor to bring honor to the organization as its representative in the international sporting arena. This is also in line with the Army’s commitment in achieving its vision to be a world-class army that is a source of national pride by 2028," he added. (PNA)
