DUMAGUETE CITY -- Classes have been suspended at all levels in both public and private schools in Negros Oriental in the wake of Tropical Depression Samuel that is affecting many parts of the Visayas and Mindanao regions.

Lawyer Richard Enojo, Provincial Administrator and currently OIC of the Office of the Governor, signed Executive Order No. 18-019, “by authority of the governor” late Monday, declaring a province-wide cancellation of classes from Nov. 20 to 21.

This is pursuant to Executive Order No. 66, issued on Jan. 9, 2012, prescribing guidelines for the cancellation or suspension of classes and work in government offices due to weather disturbances.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) had reported in its earlier weather bulletins that the provinces of Central Visayas, including Negros Oriental, was in the path of the storm.

Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 1 was hoisted over Negros Oriental and many other provinces by 5 p.m. Monday.

Prior to the province-wide cancellation of classes by Capitol, local government units in the different towns and cities had announced the same within their areas of jurisdiction, but only up to the senior high school level.

As to work in government offices, Capitol said it is left to the discretion of management.

Meanwhile, suspension of sea travel to and from Negros Oriental remains in effect until after PAGASA has lifted the Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal.

Commercial flights, however, continued Tuesday as “Samuel” was expected to cut across the northern part of the Visayas later in the day. (PNA)
