MANILA -- Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra on Tuesday confirmed that a recruiter of fighters during the five-month Marawi City siege last year has been sentenced to the maximum penalty by a Taguig court.
"Nur Supian was found guilty by the RTC (Regional Trial Court)-Taguig City (Branch 70) of the crime of terrorism and was meted a penalty of 40 years of imprisonment," Guevarra told reporters.
"In a related case, Araji Samindih and Umad Harun were convicted of the crime of rebellion and were sentenced to suffer imprisonment of from 8 years and 1 day to 14 years 8 months and 1 day," Guevarra added.
Meanwhile, Supian's co-accused Marvin Ahmad, Salip Ismael Abdulla, and Issa Ukkang were acquitted. (PNA)
