TANZA, Cavite -- The provincial government is readying its Digital Revolution project for implementation in the first quarter of next year to provide free Internet to Caviteños, especially the students.
Cavite Governor Jesus Crispin Remulla, in an interview during the inauguration of the Cavite Gateway Terminal here Thursday, said the project not only aims to end the slow Internet connection but also intends to digitize all the villages in Cavite's 23 cities and municipalities.
Remulla said the free Wi-Fi access will begin in March next year, targeting 50 percent of Cavite's barangays (villages) and increasing to 85 percent before he steps down in June 2019.
"Walang maiiwan, from the smallest to the most remote (villages). Gagawan natin ng paraan (No one will be left behind, from the smallest to the most remote barangays. We will find a way)," he said.
In August last year, Cavite entered into a memorandum of agreement with Convergence ICT Solutions, Inc. for the first pure end-to-end fiber Internet in the country to lay 300 km. of fiber optic cables province-wide.
Once operational, Caviteños will enjoy an average of 200 Mbps Internet speed for free, ending the duopoly that the country’s top Internet providers have kept their users captive all these years. (PNA)
