COTABATO CITY – Education officials in Kidapawan City have warned public school teachers against expensive Christmas parties in school next month.

“Make it simple and meaningful,” Kidapawan City Schools Division superintendent Romelito Flores said, as he advised public school teachers in elementary and secondary levels to comply with the Department of Education (DepEd) directive on the conduct of year-end parties for pupils.

Flores said the Christmas parties for school children in public schools are voluntary and must never be compulsory for pupils.

He said solicitation in kind and in cash for the Christmas party is strictly prohibited, warning that administrative charges await those who will violate the DepEd memorandum.

Instead, the DepEd official suggested that teachers and school heads make the activity meaningful by doing community services like cleaning the surroundings or through an outreach program.

As per memorandum from DepEd Regional Office 12, the holding of a simultaneous Christmas party, if teachers, parents, and students agree to have a party or community service, will be on December 21, Flores said.

The Christmas break begins after Dec. 21 with the resumption of classes scheduled on January 2, 2019. (PNA)
