DAVAO CITY -- Mayor Sara Z. Duterte led the groundbreaking of the PHP12.6 billion township project that promises to transform Davao City’s 22-hectare old Matina Golf Club into a mixed-use residential and business district.
Property developer Cebu Landmasters Inc. (CLI) and partners partnered with YHEST Realty and Development Corporation for the development of the Davao Global Township (DGT); and the Davao Filandia Realty Corporation and Yuson Strategic Holdings Inc. for The Paragon Davao.
The phase 1 of the DGT will feature an office tower, two residential towers, retail buildings, a Cineplex mall, and a convention center with a total floor area of 93,000 square meters at an estimated cost of P10 billion.
For the PHP2.6-billion Paragon Davao, the first phase will include the construction of a 26-story residential tower; the 263-room Citadines; the Paragon Davao Convention Center; and The Paragon Davao Lifestyle Mall.
During the groundbreaking ceremony for DGT, Sara lauded both projects, which are set for completion in 2022, noting that these are partnerships with the local businessmen and investors from Cebu.
“It will help bring in more money contribute to the growth of Davao,” Sara said in an interview on the sidelines of the groundbreaking event.
She emphasized the need for environmental sustainability amid the increasing real property developments in the city.
In her speech, the mayor said she was glad the industry has recognized the significance of making the project "truly green and livable" by focusing on energy efficiency, infuse environmental quality, material selection, sustainable site development, and water sewerage.
“This project is a vote of trust and confidence in Cebu Landmasters as we welcome this initiative that shall lead to the opening of more access road linking MacArthur Highway and Quimpo Boulevard,” she said.
She was also hoping to see the project allow the implementation of a water impounding system to address flooding in the Matina area, generate jobs and business activities, and diversify the products and services being offered locally.
“We shall continue to advocate developments not only economic growth but also meet environmental sustainability problems,” she said, expressing optimism that Dabawenyos will be "more than thrilled" of a world-class business district and lifestyle township industry.
Jose Soberano III, CLI chairman, and chief executive officer, said the projects are CLI’s contribution to the Build Build Build program of the Duterte administration.
With Sara’s thrust of environmental sustainability, Soberano assured that CLI will embrace eco-tourism.
Soberano noted that “with all that’s happening, all roads really lead to Davao, even developers like us that are trying to grow cannot escape our business mind that this is the place to go.” (Lilian C Mellejor/PNA)
