ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Police killed an alleged “contract killer” during a law enforcement operation in the hinterlands of Zamboanga del Norte, a top police official announced Friday.

Chief Supt. Emmanuel Luis Licup, Police Regional Office 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula) director, identified the alleged “gun-for-hire” as Ricky Limbaga, 44, of Pianon, Kalawit, Zamboanga del Norte.

Licup said Limbaga was killed in a shootout with the police when the latter served an arrest warrant against him in Barangay Banigan, Liloy, Zamboanga del Norte at about 7:45 p.m. Thursday.

Limbaga was rushed to the Liloy Integrated Health District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by Dr. Joseph Lim, the attending physician.

Licup said the police team recovered a caliber .45 pistol with ammunition and an empty shell at the shootout scene.

Police said Limbaga was involved in the killing of Nilo Dahili, barangay councilor of Lumogom, Godod, Zamboanga del Norte last Oct. 2, and the shooting of lawyer Rogelio Dumdum in Barangay Poblacion, Sindangan, of the same province last November 11.

Licup said a total of 57 “contract killers” operating in the region were either killed or apprehended as of November 29. (PNA)
