CABANATUAN CITY, Nueva Ecija -- It's a battle between two women in the first district of Nueva Ecija as incumbent Rep. Rosanna Vergara formalized her reelection bid on Thursday against Governor Czarina Umali who filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) last Monday.

Vergara filed her COC  before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) provincial office at around 4:45 p.m. on the last day for substitution of candidates, after withdrawing her bid for mayor of this city.

Mayor Julius Cesar Vergara substituted for his wife as he slid down to the vice mayoralty post with his daughter, Myca Elizabeth, as running mate for mayor.

Last Nov. 23, former Gov. Aurelio Umali filed his COC for governor of Nueva Ecija as substitute candidate for his elder brother, Gil Raymond Umali.

Gov. Umali, on the other hand, substituted for former Bongabon town Mayor Luisito Ronquilio. (PNA)
