NPA 'member' posts bail for illegal possession of firearm

DUMAGUETE CITY – A suspected member of the New People’s Army (NPA) who was arrested for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition in Guihulngan, Negros Oriental posted bail on Monday, thus was released from police custody.

A report from the Guihulngan Police Station disclosed that the suspect, Joel Esolana Alcano, 25, married and a resident of Sitio Punong in Barangay Trinidad, Guihulngan City, was required to post bail of PHP120,000 for his temporary liberty.

Judge Mario Trinidad of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 64 issued the release order for Alcano after having posted bail, the police said.

Alcano was arrested around 10:30 a.m. last Friday in a checkpoint conducted by the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company of the Philippine National Police (PNP) here and the 94th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army under OPORD Sanib Puersa Dos 11/2018.

Seized from Alcano’s possession were a caliber .38 revolver with six live ammunition.

He was identified as allegedly a member of the CN1 of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army, the police report said. (PNA)
