COTABATO CITY -- Police have launched a manhunt against four gunmen who ambushed and injured a candidate for town councilor in Parang, Maguindanao Wednesday afternoon.

Senior Supt. Madzgani Mukaram, Maguindanao police provincial director, said police already have obtained information on the identities of the suspects and the vehicle used in the 4:30 p.m. ambush in Sultan Kudarat town, Maguindanao.

“Police follow-up operations are underway,” Mukaram said without elaborating further.

Khadafy Karudin Pendi, a candidate for councilor of Parang, Maguindanao was hit in the leg during the ambush.

Pendi's companions were unhurt. They were identified as Amelia Abo, a town councilor who is running for vice mayor of Parang in next year’s election, Hammy Makapeges Manabilang, also a candidate for town councilor, Bai Shahara Salasal, and their driver Kim Basag.

The victims were on a Honda Jazz vehicle (AOA 3243) and were heading toward Cotabato City from Parang when ambushed by the gunmen along the national highway in Sultan Kudarat.

“We believe the incident was election-related because Abo and her companions have no known enemies,” Mukaram said. (PNA)
